Drowning in Chaos? You’re Not Alone—But You Don’t Have to Stay There

“If the enemy can’t destroy your destiny, he’ll do everything in his power to distract you from walking in it.”

Chaos doesn’t always look like evil—it often looks like urgency, busyness, confusion, anxiety, or noise. We’ve normalized distraction so deeply in our lives that we sometimes miss the deeper truth:

Chaos is one of the enemy’s favorite spiritual weapons.

1 Corinthians 14:33: “God is not the author of confusion but of peace.”

So when we start feeling spiritually foggy, emotionally reactive, physically drained, and mentally exhausted—we need to pause and ask: “Who authored this?”

What Does Chaos Look Like in Real Life?

  • Constant busyness
  • Emotional burnout
  • Brain fog
  • Sensory overload
  • A house filled with noise, clutter, and tension
  • A heart filled with worry, shame, or “I should be doing more”

If the enemy can’t destroy your life, he’ll just keep you too distracted to live it.

The Bible Has Plenty to Say About Chaos

  • Peter walking on water (Matthew 14:30): He did the impossible—until he noticed the storm and sank.
  • Martha in the kitchen (Luke 10:41): She was busy doing “God’s work” but missed the presence of Jesus right in her living room.
  • Jesus in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1–11): The devil tried to confuse Him by twisting Scripture itself.

What Chaos Does to Your Brain and Body

  • The amygdala (fear center) goes into overdrive.
  • Your decision-making ability shuts down.
  • Your nervous system gets stuck in “fight or flight” mode.
  • You can’t relax. You can’t pray. You can’t think straight.

When your nervous system is loud, God’s whisper feels hard to hear.

How to Defeat the Chaos

1. Pause. Interrupt the spiral.

Take 60 seconds. Turn everything off. Close your eyes. Breathe.
Psalm 46:10

2. Ask God: Where is this coming from?

Is this from You? Or is this just noise?
1 John 4:1

3. Speak Scripture out loud.

  • John 14:27
  • 2 Timothy 1:7
  • Isaiah 26:3

4. Declutter your space and your soul.

5. Reconnect with spiritual rhythm.

6. Speak with authority.

7. Calm your nervous system.

Peace isn’t just a feeling. It’s a learned posture.

You Can Be at Peace Even When Life Isn’t

John 14:27: “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you… Do not let your hearts be troubled.”

God isn’t waiting for you to “get it together.” He’s waiting for you to come as you are, chaos and all.

Reflect + Respond

  1. What does chaos look like in my life right now?
  2. What is one step I can take to re-center with God?
  3. What’s a lie I’ve believed because of chaos—and what’s the truth from Scripture?
